Cowdenbeath Castle houses the highest number of working cannons – 26 – of any castle in Scotland. See each one fired in formation, at our displays, for an unforgettable experience.

Our cannon displays are the perfect day out, no matter what you’re interested in. Like history? Our cannon displays include (optional) talks from our Master of Cannons. Like big bangs? Our 20th century artillery cannon has a bang that is 168dB loud. Like men in fluffy hats? We have those too. Bring the whole family and have the time of your life.

You don’t need to worry about safety either. Since 1995, all our cannons have fired blank rounds, meaning that since 1995 there hasn’t been a single fatality at any of our displays.

Displays take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Displays last 2 hours.

Meet our cannons

Jonathan

Jonathan is a 16th century cannon who was found in the castle cellar and painstakingly restored to working order.

Ben

Ben, or Big Ben as he is lovingly known, was delivered to Cowdenbeath as a present from Louis XIV in the 17th Century.

Pachelbel

Pachelbel is a cannon whose bang is repetitive but beautiful. Purchased by the castle in 1992 from a bankrupt Bavarian cannon collector.
